Hello!
I am offering a well rooted cutting of Benicia Dark Unk, a presumed seedling found by my friend Daniel in, or around, Benicia, CA. The tree grows well, sets delicious fruits that seem to ripen in a pretty tight window, meaning much of the fruits ripen around the same time (at least on my young tree). Fruits appear to be common, they do not drop from my tree the way my known (and suspected) Smyrnas do. That’s not conclusive by any means, but it’s the only information I currently have regarding whether it’s common or not. So maybe don’t purchase if you don’t have the wasp, the interest to hand pollinate, or the space and patience to try something new. Very unique and tasty fruit! Myself and some others suspect that this is likely a synonym, or the same seedling, as the tree sold as Corazon de la Bahia, so if you’re a fan of new seedling varieties, and already have that one, this may be redundant.
See photos for actual tree. It has been in part sun and is well acclimated. I intend to ship the following Monday morning so long as the invoice is complete by Sunday at noon.
I have a large fig collection and expect all my trees have been exposed to FMV. I am in CA but there are no reports of BFF in my city (Napa) and I have my small trees segregated from fruiting trees just as a precaution should my fortunes change. I’m keeping very close eyes on this pest and I will not take any risky chances regarding its spread.
Shoot me a message if you have any questions. Good luck out there!
