From our supplier:
Capsicum annuum. (82 days) Open-pollinated. Anne Elder gets 200 of these little “sweeties” per plant, “cute little compact treasures full of heat.” Small conical peppers ripen to bright red and stand erect above the foliage so fetchingly that it’s grown “in the trade” as a red and green Christmas potted plant. However, devotees of hot cuisine prize its sparks. Early pinching will produce a bushy 8" plant that can be pulled, roots and all, and hung to dry for winter use or grown inside for ornamental and edible enjoyment. Thai Hot checks in around 25,000-40,000 Scoville units.
We were introduced to Thai Hot by a pepper-head friend about 5 years ago (Thanks Matt!) and everyone loved them. In the second or third year of growing, we harvested our own seed, and results in the following year were less than impressive. Cross-pollination caused larger fruits, muted and less coloring, and large, leggy plants. We've been buying pure seed ever since. Pure Thai Hot stays compact and it's very easy to grow. With only a bit of effort, you can produce hundreds of little pods per plant; we always have extra of this variety at the end of the season. From experience, we found Thai Hot works great in a container as well as in-ground. We've grown this variety in a railing container as small as 6" x 8"! Fresh Thai Hot works with any cuisine and the red coloring really adds a bit of flash to any dish. Thai Hot is an easy variety to dry or freeze for later use. Thai Hot packs a nice punch and (for us) it's a go-to for hot sauces. We've also crushed the dried pods into red pepper flakes. You won't regret adding this variety to the garden.
Sow seeds indoors, 1/4" deep, in a warm location. 14-28 days to germinate. Transplant to fertile soil in containers or hedge 20" apart, at least 3' between rows, in areas with full sun in the spring.
Shipping and Combined Shipping
NYCfigs ships on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
We never 'pass the savings' of expensive shipping charges to the customer and always ship as economically as possible. Sometimes this becomes a juggling act between cost-of-goods vs. cost-of-container vs. shipment size vs. shipping cost vs. margins. With combined shipping, it's all in the packing and we'll always find the most inexpensive shipping method available. But there are times when it's impossible to ship economically and we'll always let you know before paying. The shipping for all items sold by NYCfigs will combine automatically with all other items purchased from NYCfigs. Items that ship free can't be discounted. In the rare instance of excess shipping charges, NYCfigs will refund after the invoice is paid. This ensures your items are received in a timely manner.
