Carolina Reaper Pepper:

The Carolina Reaper was developed in South Carolina by breeder Ed Currie (Please look up Ed and read about how he got into growing hot peppers and the work he currently does) by cross-breeding a Pakistani Naga with a Red Habanero pepper from the island of St. Vincent in the West Indies.  The actual formula for crossing and exotic lineage of the parents is a closely gaurded secret.  The Carolina Reaper is currently the Guinees Record holder for hottest pepper in the world and unseated the previous record holder Trinidad Moruga Scorpion.  Aptly named for its scythe-shaped tail at the base which resembles the scythe of the Grim Reaper, this bomb is for serious pepper heads only and a must for any collection of super-hots.  For everyone else, the striking appearance and vibrant color of the pods makes a great conversation piece in the garden.

Annual.  120 days to maturity.  Open-pollinated.  The misshaped, gnarled, 2" x 1.5" squat pods sport a bumpy texture and mature from light green to green to a deep and fiery red.  Bushy plants will reach 4 feet in height.  Carolina Reaper has a sweet, fruity flavor with chocolate/cherry undertones and unrelenting heat.  The Caroliina Reaper clocks in at 1.5 million to 2.2 million Scoville Heat Units on the Scoville Scale.  So this baby is reserved only for those who crave the heat.  Carolina Reaper is perfect when used sparingly for sauces and salsa but can also be dehydrated and ground into a hot pepper powder or flakes.

Please be careful when handling any part of the Carolina Reaper pepper, including the seeds, as the oils can cause a burning sensation to your skin.  It's best to wear disposable gloves and be sure not to touch anywhere near your eyes or other sensitive areas without first washing your hands.

Sow indoors 1/4” deep, 2” apart, 8-10 weeks before last frost date.  Keep near 80º.  Transplant to fertile soil 2-4 weeks after the last frost, 18" apart, in rows 2-3’ apart.

Shipping and Combined Shipping

NYCfigs ships on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

We never 'pass the savings' of expensive shipping charges to the customer and always ship as economically as possible.  Sometimes this becomes a juggling act between cost-of-goods vs. cost-of-container vs. shipment size vs. shipping cost vs. margins.  With combined shipping, it's all in the packing and we'll always find the most inexpensive shipping method available.  But there are times when it's impossible to ship economically and we'll always let you know before paying.  The shipping for all items sold by NYCfigs will combine automatically with all other items purchased from NYCfigs.  Items that ship free can't be discounted.  In the rare instance of excess shipping charges, NYCfigs will refund after the invoice is paid.  This ensures your items are received in a timely manner.
