From FEDCO:
75 days to maturity. Open-pollinated. As dazzling as the name suggests! Not bell-shaped, but belongs in this sweet category with its crisp colorful compatriots. Short plants produce a profusion of early pointed 4" fruits that start out chartreuse, streak purple, then turn more fully purple with red streaking, before ripening solid red. This color medley is at play on the plants, so you can harvest a stunning sparkling assortment. A brand new selection for 2020!
Very tender, will not tolerate frost, dislikes the wind, will not set fruit in cold or extremely hot temperatures or in drought conditions. Start indoors in March or April. Set out in June. Black plastic highly recommended. Row cover improves fruit set in windy spots. Pick first green peppers when they reach full size to increase total yield significantly. Green peppers, though edible, are not ripe. Peppers ripen to red, yellow, orange, etc. Minimum germination soil temperature 60°, optimal temperature range 68-95°.
Peppers are tropical perennials, usually grown as annuals, so you won't see them listed with a USDA Hardiness Zone. However, since they are perennial, you can bring plants indoors in winter, as houseplants. You may even get some peppers. :)
Seed-saving tips: Use only the first fruits for seed; allow only 3–4 fruits per plant to grow and remove all others. Fewer fruits = larger seeds = greater seed viability. Later fruits often have germination rates of only 60%.
Shipping and Combined Shipping
NYCfigs ships on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
We never 'pass the savings' of expensive shipping charges to the customer and always ship as economically as possible. Sometimes this becomes a juggling act between cost-of-goods vs. cost-of-container vs. shipment size vs. shipping cost vs. margins. With combined shipping, it's all in the packing and we'll always find the most inexpensive shipping method available. But there are times when it's impossible to ship economically and we'll always let you know before paying. The shipping for all items sold by NYCfigs will combine automatically with all other items purchased from NYCfigs. Items that ship free can't be discounted. In the rare instance of excess shipping charges, NYCfigs will refund after the invoice is paid. This ensures your items are received in a timely manner.
