Latin: Malus domestica 'Gala'

Gala is a reliable sweet dessert apple originating from New Zealand in the 1930s.  One of the world's most popular apple varieties, Gala grows vigorously in both temperate and warm regions and is a low-chill variety (<800 chill hours).

Gala is a cross between the famous Cox's Orange Pippin and Red & Golden Delicious, three of the world's most important apple varieties.  It stores well, starting in color out as a very light Cox, mainly orange streaks over yellow; and mature apples are much darker, often a strong red color.
