Dark Portugese (Bass version) rooted cutting from my mother tree, from the original source in a 4 x 9 treepot. This dark fig has a delicious sweet berry flavor and ripens on the earlier side of mid season for me. It is a vigorous in-ground producer and has survived nicely over winter with protection. One of my favorite Mt. Etna figs, it is a reliable, hardy and prolific fig, pumping out fruit all season. A workhorse variety especially for the northeast.
This plant has has been grown indoors and so will need to be acclimated gradually to outdoor temperatures and sunlight this spring. Exposure to direct sunlight will burn the leaves and so caution and gradual exposure will be necessary.
I have fruited this variety and it is 100% guaranteed true to type. I assume that all of my trees have at some point been exposed to FMV, although proper care and feeding prevents outward symptoms. I am JoePAFig on Ourfigs, feel free to contact me with questions. My wife and I are gardening enthusiasts and operate a small hobby nursery, Fairmount Figs, licensed and inspected by the PA Department of Agriculture.
