Greetings !!!
Up for auction is this rooted cutting of Smith. It’s a medium sized fig with an intense rich berry flavor. Quite prolific as well. Very well-known and respected by serious fig collectors. It's said that the Smith fig variety was originally brought to the US from France by Becnel Nursery in Louisiana. It has since been deemed a southern heirloom because it has been a favorite in the southern states for decades. Smith is touted as easy to grow in southern climates and is resistant to splitting during periods of heavy rain or high humidity. These attributes make it an excellent choice for any region in my opinion. This is a wonderful fig and I believe that everyone needs a Smith fig. This one gets better and better every year! Believe it or not, this is one that I would never be without. It's a top 5 fig for me.
Join me here every Sunday evening from 8 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. for the ending of my auctions!
The starting bid on this variety is the "Reserve" and I believe it to be a more than fair price based on demand and this years recent sales. Buy it now disappears with the first bid.
You will receive the exact plant that is photographed. This one is grown in a 4"x 9" Stuewe & Sons Tree-pot along with a professional growing mix. These pots make shipping and growing cuttings a breeze and are easy to transplant. It should have a very nice root system and should rebound from transplanting easily. Once transplanted, I think it’s always a good idea to place the newly planted tree in a shadier location for a week just to make sure it can recover adequately in its new environment. This is especially true when replanting in a southern location or when the temperatures are above 80. The Heat and sun intensity can be quite different in Texas for example compared to Michigan.
Some notes on Shipping:
My growing operation has been inspected by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. I'm licensed to ship to ALL US states. However, I will not ship to Hawaii, Alaska, or Puerto Rico. Sellers selling plants with the comments "Buyers are responsible for knowing their states laws on importing live plants." do so irresponsibly. There are many new sellers entering in the fig market lately. I think it's great for the hobby, but sellers that are not properly inspected should be avoided.
I will ship Tuesday-Friday purchases on Saturday and Saturday-Monday purchases on Monday/Tuesday (in case of a holiday, this may change slightly). The faster your invoice is paid, the faster I can get your plants out. Please make sure your Figbid and Paypal shipping address is current and accurate. Combined shipping is available automatically upon invoice with multiple auctions being won or purchased through FigBid within the same week. Figbid combines these automatically, so it's best to wait and pay after all of the auctions you're bidding on for that week are complete, otherwise you will be charged the full shipping charge with each invoice. I always prefer USPS, but boxes over 22" cost quite a bit more to ship. I reserve the right to use UPS or Fedex if plants go over the 22" mark. Please reach out to me beforehand if there is an issue with that.
Thank you for your support and happy figging!!!!!
