Description

Greetings !!!

Up for sale are these rooted cuttings of Hardy Chicago.   It's one of the first figs in my collection.   Probably the one that got me hooked on collecting figs. It's the main fig that people refer to as a "Mt Etna" fig.   The Hardy Chicago or "Chicago Hardy" Fig tree is known for being especially cold hardy and producing medium sized, brown to purple figs. The inside of the fruit is colored a lovely shade that looks like strawberry jam.   This one is the perfect beginner fig and is productive and easy to grow, exhibiting drought-tolerance once established. The Chicago Hardy may die back in colder climates and resume growth in the spring. It bears fruit early on the new growth.  This is where it gets its name. Figs that grow on the older wood will appear in early summer.

I have many of these as I'm probably going to select this variety as my rootstock of choice in the future.

Join me here every Sunday evening from 8 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. for the ending of my auctions!

The starting bid on this variety is the "Reserve" and I believe it to be a more than fair price based on demand and this years recent sales. Buy it now disappears with the first bid.

You will receive a plant that is similar to one that is photographed.  They are grown in 3.5"x 9" Stuewe & Sons Tree-pots along with a professional growing mix.   These pots make shipping and growing cuttings a breeze and are easy to transplant.   It will have a very nice root system and should rebound from transplanting easily.  Once transplanted, I think it’s always a good idea to place the newly planted tree in a shadier location for a week just to make sure it can recover adequately in its new environment.   This is especially true when replanting in a southern location or when the temperatures are above 80.   The Heat and sun intensity can be quite different in Texas for example compared to Michigan.

Some notes on Shipping:

My growing operation has been inspected by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.  I'm licensed to ship to ALL US states.  However, I will not ship to Hawaii, Alaska, or Puerto Rico. Sellers selling plants with the comments "Buyers are responsible for knowing their states laws on importing live plants." do so irresponsibly.  There are many new sellers entering in the fig market lately.   I think it's great for the hobby, but sellers that are not properly inspected should be avoided.

I will ship Tuesday-Friday purchases on Saturday and Saturday-Monday purchases on Monday/Tuesday (in case of a holiday, this may change slightly).  The faster your invoice is paid, the faster I can get your plants out.   Please make sure your Figbid and Paypal shipping address is current and accurate.  Combined shipping is available automatically upon invoice with multiple auctions being won or purchased through FigBid within the same week.  Figbid combines these automatically, so it's best to wait and pay after all of the auctions you're bidding on for that week are complete, otherwise you will be charged the full shipping charge with each invoice.  I always prefer USPS, but boxes over 22" cost quite a bit more to ship.   I reserve the right to use UPS or Fedex if plants go over the 22" mark.   Please reach out to me beforehand if there is an issue with that.

Thank you for your support and happy figging!!!!!

Return Policy
Dan Foster has a rock solid return policy. In the rare instance that you are not satisfied, please let me know immediately and I'll make it right with a refund or exchange. Please consider buying Insurance upon checkout. https://figbid.com/Help/#Insurance Please understand that I do my best to correct shipping delays and lost packages but those issues are out of our control.Shipping Live Plants is always a tricky endeavor. I strive to carefully pack and ship your plants with care but, they are live plants, and sometimes it gets hot! If you don't have a safe place out of direct sun and heat to receive your packages, please reconsider ordering from me until the weather is favorable or be willing to take on your share of the risk. If you have a plant that you received and it's not doing well, please carefully unpack and water it. Place in a cool shady spot and plant it up if possible. Figs are resilient! Many times figs will shed some leaves as a response to being in a box, but will form new leaves within a few weeks. If you're plant dies due to shipping stress, I will refund after 30 days or situationally. Please send me photos and work with me on a resolution. Please take pictures of packaging and plant if it arrives damaged, be prepared to present this packaging to your local post office as part of their claims process. When it comes to striped figs that do not fruit with stripes: If you get sporadic striping its best to prune the solid portion out of the way, which will encourage the striped wood to prevail. Rigato Del Salento and Paratjal Rimada are good examples of this. If you get all solid fruits, take a picture of the fruit as it's growing on the whole plant and send it to me. If the plant has reverted completely, I will make it right. I can send a replacement or offer a refund. I don't expect anyone to pay a high dollar amount for a striped fig only to have it fruit solid green. Not many others will offer this guarantee, but I understand the beauty of striped figs and also know that they can be finicky. I want you to be happy with what you receive from me.
